OGSWC SIGNS MoU, HANDS OVER KIOSKS TO VENDORS

Ogun State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with water vendors, to ensure easy access of potable water for residents through water kiosks provided by the State Water Corporation.

The Acting General Manager, Mrs. Muinat Jaji, who disclosed this in Abeokuta, said government would continue to partner organisations and individuals in its commitment to improve water supply and guarantee reliable sources of water to towns and surrounding areas, so as to increase the Internally Generated Revenue of the Corporation.

Mrs. Jaji revealed that the collaboration was a partnership, where the Corporation would provide a free meter, treated water and water kiosks to water vendors for them to sell clean, treated water for consumers in their neighbourhood, at a unified and affordable rate, explaining that the water kiosks were mounted in areas where water pipes could not reach.

She emphasised the need for frequent stakeholders meeting to uphold the integrity of the Corporation, just as the consumer feedback mechanisms would be treated with utmost importance, while activities of the vendors would be monitored.

In his remarks, the Business Manager of the Corporation, Engr. Kayode Adetonwa, cautioned that building on water pipes, bypassing and tampering with water meters were criminal offenses with penalty attached to each.

One of the vendors, Comrade Taiwo Ajayi of Oke-Ilagbe community, appreciated government for the extension of pipes to his community, soliciting for more to other neighbouring communities, as most of the wells had already dried up due to the dry season.

Thereafter, the Management team went to different locations where the water kiosks were sited at Oke-Ilagbe, Gbonagun, Obantoko and Iberekodo, all in Abeokuta, to hand over the water kiosks to beneficiaries.

Speaking on behalf of the other vendors, Pastor Oloyede Oyebode of Unity Estate Gbonagun Abeokuta, appreciated the management team of the Corporation for the gesture, saying the partnership would be beneficial to both parties.
