 EDUCATION SECTOR GULPS N109,219 AS ABIODUN UNVEILS 2024 BUDGET

In furtherance to the sustenance and development of quality education, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has allocated the sum of N109,219 amounting to 16 percent of the total budget N703,028,013,431.64 for year 2024.

 


Governor Abiodun, who presented the appropriation bill titled, "Budget of Sustained Growth and Development" before the state House of Assembly in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, said education was one of the core areas of focus of his administration, hence the need for adequate provision in the year 2024 budget.

The Governor in his N415.66 billion would be meant for Capital expenditure, stating that the new budget under his second term in office, would see to the sustenance, completion and provision of new projects in the interest of the people.

The Governor described the sector as a worthwhile investment in the immediate and distant future, noting the reason for priotising it in the ISEYA mantra of his administration.

Highlighting the present government’s achievements in education, Abiodun said his administration had addressed the shortage of teachers through OgunTeach scheme, emphasising that his administration had recruited 5,000 teaching interns under the OGUNTEACH and recently converted 1,000 teachers for permanent employment.

       ‘’Apart from the continuous prompt payment of salaries of the teaching and non-teaching staff, we have also increased the running costs of our schools, and promoted over 265 deserving staff, especially Principals-General and Head Teachers-General".

In his remarks, Rt. Hon. Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly (OGHA), Olakunle Oluomo expressed confidence in the leadership of the executive arm as led by the Governor, saying completed projects as well as on-going ones attest to this, assuring the Governor of rendering the needed legislative support at passing the bill within the shortest possible time.

The speaker who called for more inclusion in the budget, said constituency projects should be well accommodated.

"We shall be glad if the Governor can use his office to identify or call Hon. members to identify constituency intervention projects for inclusion in the budget of 2024 so that we can have a legacy alongside that of your Excellency in our various constituencies", he said.

Chairman Teaching Service Commission, (TESCOM), Evang. Olalekan Ifede, in his reaction, expressed confidence in the Bill, particularly as the Governor himself pointed out the effort of his administration in teachers’ recruitment and welfare. Ifede emphasised the commitment of the commission towards implementing policies in this direction especially as it concerns teaching service in the state.
