OGUN GOVT TASKS LG COMMISSION ON EFFECTIVE GOVERNANCE
Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun has tasked the Local Government Service Commission, to assist the State government in enhancing governance and impro4ving service delivery at the grassroots.
Abiodun stated this while addressing the management and staff of the Commission, who were at a campaign rally at the Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, as part of activities commemorating the 2023 Local Government Service Commission Week.
The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi noted that Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration is committed to exploring the mechanism of the Local Government administration as the closest to the people, to improving the livelihood of the people and creating more wealth for those at the grassroots, towards tackling incessant rural-urban drift.
He wanted it to stimulate timely feedback from the Local Government Areas across the State being the frontline administrators at the grassroots, to help the government plan effectively and be abreast of developments as they unfold in the local areas across the State.
According to Abiodun, ‘’This conviction necessitated the premium attention it had given to the Commission in order to fulfil its core mandates. As you are aware, we have a conviction that the Local Governments being the closest to the people will be quite helpful in driving our developmental initiative at the grassroots.
‘’This is why we took decisive steps to fill the gaps we observed at the Local Government level culminating in the employment of 600 medical personnel, to enhance our healthcare plan at that level including covering more years of payment of gratuities for LG retirees’’.
The Governor urged the Local Government employees to support his administration by keeping their ears to the ground, building an effective feedback mechanism, and endearing government to the people of the grassroots, to enable his administration to deliver more dividends of democracy in line with its good governance agenda to the council areas across the State.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman, Ogun State Local Service Commission, Ms. Olubukunola Onabanjo, who led the campaign, informed that the celebration was the maiden edition of the Week to be celebrated by the Commission, lauding the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration for its support so far.
