 LEARNERS ADVISED TO ENGAGE IN USEFUL ACTIVITIES

Learners have been advised to engage themselves in skills acquisitions, sporting activities, cultural dance and other extracurricular activities and arrange their priorities well for them to achieve their set goals in life.


The Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye gave the advice during the Maiden Edition of the Inter-Secondary School Competition, organised by Abeokuta North Zonal Education Office.

Represented by the Director, Secondary and Higher Education, Mr. Oluwole Majekodunmi, the Permanent Secretary said the competition was to help develop learners' curiosity, develop a reading culture and be academically sound, so they can compete favourably with others within the State and beyond.

Mrs. Ogunleye enjoined learners to choose their peers carefully and shy away from any form of social vices like hooliganism, cultism, bullying and intake of illicit drugs, describing them as bad attitudes that destroy the future.

She reaffirmed the commitment of Prince Dapo Abiodun to the provision of security, infrastructure, a conducive learning environment, quality teaching and learning and digital equipment to ensure learners have a promising future.

Speaking, the Zonal Coordinator, Abeokuta North Zonal Education Office, Mrs. Deborah Ogundimu stated that 48 Public and Private, Junior and Senior Secondary schools in the zone, participated in the competitions which comprised Quiz and Cooking, saying the 1st positions of the Junior and Senior category would be awarded a plot of land each.

In his goodwill message, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom,Abeokuta, Oba (Prof.) Saka Matemilola lauded the initiative of the Teachers'Awards, organised by the State government, noting that the initiative would linger on in the minds of the teachers in the State, and also serve as a model for other States.

The winner of the Quiz Competition (Senior Category), Graham Enjoko of Arch. Bishop Dada Akinde Anglican Comprehensive Academy, Ikija, Abeokuta, and the 1st position (Junior), Onaoluwa Olaleye of African Church Grammar School, Ita-Eko, Abeokuta, said the competition had exposed them to the spirit of competitiveness and had challenged them to study more for outstanding performances.
