EMBER MONTHS CAMPAIGN: TRACE SEEKS MONARCH'S SUPPORT ON ROAD ACCIDENT REDUCTION
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has sought the support of traditional chiefs and rulers to educate their subjects on the need to inculcate safe driving rules and regulations.
The new Divisional Commander of TRACE for Remo axis, Cdr. Tayo Akinremi, who spoke during a familiarisation visit on its ‘Ember Months’ campaign to the palace of the Alaye-Ode of Ode-Remo, Oba (Dr.) Adetunji Osho, said the campaign became imperative to reduce reckless driving and other road infractions that are common to motorists during the ember period.
Cdr. Akinremi stated that the Agency was determined to ensure that road users, particularly motorcyclists and commuters remain safe in the process of moving from one place to another, noting that incidences of crashes and accidents could be reduced to the barest minimum when individuals observe rules and regulations guiding road usage.
He said officers and men of TRACE in the area have begun sensitization of students in schools, drivers at motor parks and other road users in various communities to tackle road crashes.
"Our command has been working assiduously to tell people to always take caution while navigating the roads. We are going around public places like schools, motor parks and communities with our 'Ember Months' message. Everybody should be road safety conscious, especially, those motorcycle riders and their passengers who must cultivate the use of crash helmets to save their lives", he said.
In his response, Oba Adetunji Osho while appreciating the TRACE command for the visit, admonished them to be diplomatic in handling various offenders and avoid acts capable of tarnishing the agency.
Speaking on behalf of the Chiefs, the Oluwo and Apesin of Ode-Remo, High Chief Femi Ogunfowora and Alhaji Ajayi Abdul- Akeem respectively, lauded Officers and men of the Agency in the axis for their efforts, promising their backing to enable the Command achieve its mandate.
