 WORLD TEACHERS' DAY: GOV ABIODUN REWARDS TEACHERS, SCHOOLS

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has rewarded teachers who made the State proud in the discharge of their duties with cash gifts and 2-bedroom bungalows.

He also approved the absorption of 1,000 interns into the system and gave approval for the employment of fresh 2000 interns to improve the pupil-teacher ratio, and to fill the existing vacancy in public schools.


The teachers rewarded were Mr. Akeem Badru of RCM  Primary School, Ogunpa Lunloye, Obafemi Owode Local Government Education Authority, for coming first in the African winner of the Cambridge Dedicated Teacher's Award, Mr. Togbe Ganiyu from Owiwi Community Primary School, Ewekoro Local Government Education Authority, for distinguishing himself as the Best Public Primary School Teacher, Egba Division and Mrs Ajayi Abosede from St. John’s Primary School, Kuto, for emerging the Best Primary School Administrator from Egba division, while Mr. Kusimo Oluseyi from Baptist Boys High School, Saje, was rewarded for being the Best Administrator in senior secondary school category.

Others were, Mr. Amosun Temitope, the best teacher in Junior Secondary School from Remo, Mr. Ganiyu Wasiu, the best teacher in the Senior Secondary School category from Egba Division. Samza Omolara from the Ijebu Division emerged as the Best School Administrator in Junior secondary school, while Angela Otabo from Egba Division emerged as the Best teacher in the private school category.

  Baptist Boys High School (Junior), Saje, Abeokuta, emerged as the best in the public secondary school category followed by Remo Secondary School (Senior), Sagamu.

Prince Abiodun disclosed this at the year 2023 World Teachers' Day celebration with the theme: "The Teachers We Need for Education We Want; the Global Imperative to Reverse Teachers Shortage", held at the Oba's Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

He said these awardees have made the state proud in the discharge of their duties, and it was imperative to reward them in order to boost their morale.

According to him “the appointment of the new teachers takes immediate effect and it is also my great joy to announce to you that Ogun State will be having an Education Summit soonest, for cross-fertilizing of ideas by critical stakeholders in the sector, to proffer workable solutions on how to improve our education sector beyond this point”.

The Governor applauded the efforts of all teachers, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) the State Wing, for supporting the present administration.

In his welcome address, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, described teachers as the builders who are in the business of building future leaders, appreciating them for their efforts in sustaining the standard.

In their separate remarks, the State Chairman of NUT, Comrade Abiodun Akinola, and his counterpart State Chairman (ASUSS), Comrade Felix Agbesanwa said that teachers in the State were enjoying the dividends of good governance.

They thanked the Ogun State Government for creating an enabling environment for teachers to exhibit their talents and commended the Governor for initiating various policies and interventions geared towards increasing students' Higher Education Potential in the State.
