Olota Gifts Nigeria Navy 25acres of Land, Showers Encomiun On NOWA's medical Rhapsody, Palliatives Distribution
Olata Of Ota, Oba professor Abdulkabir Obalanlege has gifted 25 acres of Land to the Naval Officer's Wives Association (NOWA), for appreciating their usual annual medical phasody in the area as well the distribution of palliatives as part of giving back to the host community.
Olota gave the commendation at the official flag off of this year medical rhapsody at his palace adding that the outreach which featured free medical consultation, eyes test, vital signs check, blood pressure checks, free medication, distribution of palliatives and school items to students (bags, writing materials and others) is worthy of em
ulation.
In his remarks, Olota urged the team not to relent in giving their best towards ensuring security of life and property which adding that the subsidy removal is not to suffer the Nigerians rather to bring future enjoyment and position the nation in an eviable manner in the comity of Nations.
Prof. Obalanlege added that in order to ensure rapid development of the area there is need to support the Navy through the generous donation of 25acres of land saying this is not a reward rather for the development of Awori kingdom.
"Olowu of Owu, His Excellency, Fmr. President Okikiola Olusegun Obasanjo, Onilogbo of Ilogbo Asowo and others were aware of the land ceded to the Navy and through this gesture, the host community will also benefits form the development, we hope some of the projects expected are Primarily School, Secondary School and extension of the Nigerian Navy School of Music which will impact directly on our people.” Olota said.
Responding, wife to the Flag Officer Commanding Naval Training Command, Mrs. Adarena Nwatu who led other wives of Naval Officers to the Palace of Olota and Ruler of the Paramount & Ancient Ottaland, calls for more collaborations between the Nigerian Navy and host communities commending the people of the Kingdom for their hospitality and cooperation, among others.
According to her, “Naval Officers´ Wives Association (NOWA) came into being on 30 November 1965 under the leadership of Mrs Anne Wey, wife of the first indigenous Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Joseph Edet Akinwale Wey of blessed memory”.
“It started as a small Tea Group for light-hearted discussion by wives of naval officers to kill boredom because of the regular absence of their husbands to sea and also as a forum of rendering assistance to wives of naval ratings in and out of the barracks. It was and still is a forum where social problems relating to the less privileged in the society are discussed and where contributions are made to assist the needy”.
Nwatu promised that they will not relent in their efforts enjoining the residents to be law aboding at all times.
Mrs Omolabake Anifowose on behalf of the beneficiaries thanked the organisers for the gesture which has come at the right time saying this will go a long way at ensuring the well - being of the residents in Ota.
