SUBSCRIBE TO OGUN HEALTH INSURANCE SCHEME, PS URGES STAFFERS

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Olu. Ola. Aikulola has appealed to Civil Servants including staffers of the Ministry to embrace the Ogun State Health Insurance Scheme, stating that the scheme is a proactive and cost-effective way of accessing health care.

Aikulola made the appeal in Abeokuta during the Day One of the Two-day "Know Your Health Status" programme, organized by the Ministry for its over 400 staffers, noting that the benefits of registering for the scheme outweigh the monthly fee of N1,000 for the individual plan and N4,000 for the family plan of the scheme.

The Permanent Secretary said the Health Scheme would help its subscribers have access to more regular check-ups as appropriate and help to prevent needless expenditures on unforeseen sicknesses.

"The benefits of the Scheme are greater than the financial requirement.  I have heard testimonials about somebody who only paid five times and her medical bill of about a million naira was paid by the Scheme. Your life is very important and nobody knows when health challenges can come. I am urging you to register for Health Insurance especially now that economic challenges are making it difficult for people to save. The PS cannot give a directive on this. I am just encouraging you," Aikulola said.

Speaking earlier, the Executive Secretary, of Ogun State Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Afolabi Dosunmu in his presentation titled," Formal Health Insurance Scheme: An Intervention Long Overdue" said the Ogun State Health Insurance Scheme was introduced and backed by law to ensure residents of the State have access to medical care in a more affordable way and discourage self-medication or the patronage of quacks.

He added that although there were some misconceptions about the health insurance scheme and its sustainability, more agencies including the Hospitals Management Board and most recently the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) have seen the facts and testimonials about the Scheme and also subscribed.

Two participants at the event, Miss Omolade Animashaun and Mr. Saheed Fatusi expressed their willingness to register for the Health Insurance Scheme, noting that the scheme has various benefits that cannot be ignored.
