NIGERIA SOCIETY OF ENGINEERS PLEDGES SUPPORT ON ROAD SAFETY
The Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Ota Branch has disclosed its willingness to give technical support to the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), towards ensuring free flow of traffic and reducing carnages across the State.
To this end, the Chairman, NSE, Engr. George Adeyemi said the association would help in the area of data collation in strategic areas, as well as sensitising the road users on the need to pay more attention to road signs for their safety
Engr. Adeyemi stated this during a visit to TRACE, Ogun West Command in Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the State.
Adeyemi noted that the NSE would also collaborate with TRACE during the Ember Month Campaign programme across the State together with financing some of its logistics drives, to further improve safety on the roads.
Responding, the Chief Executive Officer of TRACE, Corps Commander Olaseni Ogunyemi, represented by the Ogun West Area Commander, Commander Adekunle Ajibade, appreciated NSE for establishing the spirit of oneness towards saving lives, saying TRACE would not relent on its oars at bringing sanity to roads through adequate public enlightenment programmes and apprehending erring drivers, to serve as a deterrent to others, saying the visit of the association was apt to further achieve synergy of purpose.
He said, "we will soon commence safety advocacy on motor parks, motorcycle rider’s garages, markets, religious homes, and schools in a bid to stop unsafe practices and ensure safety on the road as ember months are fast approaching”.
While highlighting the major causes of road crashes to include route violation, known as 'one-way driving', impatient leading to over-taking, aggressiveness, drunkenness, overloading, over speeding among others, Ogunyemi, said TRACE would continue to discharge its statutory duties without fear or favour to achieve sanity on the roads
