OGSG RAISES ALARM ON DANGERS INHERENT IN UNWHOLESOME ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICES
Towards curtailing the incessant flooding being experienced by the people, the Ogun State Government says it will no longer condone dumping of refuse on roadsides and other unlicensed places, as it exposes the environment to flooding and destroys road infrastructure.
The Director, Ogun State Emergency Management Agency, (OGSEMA), Mr. Wale Shonde disclosed this during an interview with pressmen in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, noting that the need became imperative to avoid environmental hazards.
"The idea of some individuals turning roadsides and other unlicensed places to dump sites despite several provisions and warnings by the State government is condemnable, as dumping of refuse in public places not only exposes the environment to flooding but also destroys road infrastructure", he noted.
He urged residents to subscribe to the waste management reforms of the State government by patronising waste managers assigned to their areas for proper collection of waste, advising people living in flood-prone areas like Akute, Warewa, Isheri, Kara, and others, to relocate to safer grounds to avoid falling victims.
He assured that the State government has strengthened its relationship with Federal Government and other relevant agencies, to provide succour to communities which had earlier experienced the hazard, warned residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainages, waterways, roadsides, and others across the State.
