MORE INDUSTRIAL DEVT UNDERWAY- OGSG
Ogun State Government says efforts are in top gear to consolidate the achievements of the past administration and chart a new course that will facilitate more industrial development, to adequately fulfil the dreams of the founding fathers, just as it is working towards the completion of a new industrial road in Agbara area.
Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, disclosed this in Abeokuta while interfacing with members of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), group 1, set 45, 2023, Senior Executive Course, Kuru, Jos, who were on a study tour of the State.
Talabi said the ongoing reorganisation of the State-owned industrial hubs/clusters would strengthen economic growth, especially in the areas of access to the city, nearness to markets, and industrial clusters, among others.
He revealed that over N4 billion had been disbursed in the last four years for Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) numbering about 10,000 entrepreneurs in the State through its various empowerment programmes.
According to him, ‘’the State government is open to a partnership to develop more small and medium-scale industrial hubs for increased economic production and export within the available enterprise zones in various parts of the State, the reason it directed its efforts and resources to the successful implementation of the ISEYA mantra as encapsulated in the "Building Our Future Together" agenda’’.
Contributing, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry Trade and Investment, Dr. Olu, Ola Aikulola, said the government had embarked on various policies and programmes in the industrial sector which had strengthened governance structure and earned the present administration award of the best State in policy formulation.
Aikulola stated that Ogun is one of the leading States in Agriculture and had brought about a special Agro-industrial Processing Zone (SPAPZ), that serves as an integrated development initiative designed to concentrate on agro-processing activities in an area with high agricultural potential.
He described NIPSS as a high-level centre for reflection, research and learning with the primary objective of serving as the nation's foremost policy 'think-tank' that developed a crop of top-class technocrats for high intellectual capacity.
According to him, “the present government is open to receiving development partners who are willing to partner with it on the development of more small and medium-scale industrial hubs for increased economic production and export within the available enterprise zones in various parts of the State’’.
Responding, a member of the directing staff of the NIPSS, Brigadier General Sylvester Olumuyiwa Oloyede, who spoke on the theme of the visit, "Industrialisation, Climate Change and Energy Security in Nigeria: Issues, Challenges & Prospects", appreciated the State government for the humble reception and applauded it for the development strides recorded on empowerment, expressed optimism of accomplishing their mission.
