OGUN DEPUTY GOV. CALLS FOR INCREASED AWARENESS ON DRUG ABUSE

OGUN DEPUTY GOV. CALLS FOR INCREASED AWARENESS ON DRUG ABUSE

To nip in the bud the abuse of narcotics and other substances in the country, the Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, has called for increased awareness, enlightenment and sensitisation programmes, to enable people to know more about the consequences of drug(s) abuse.

The Deputy Governor made the call in Abeokuta, while playing host to the new Commander of Narcotics, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Commander, CN Ibibba Odilli, and her team, who were on a courtesy visit to her office in Oke-Mosan, saying the prevailing rate of drug abuse in the country has become worrisome.

She noted that education and advocacy on drug-related issues would go a long way in curbing the menace, particularly among the youth, urging media organisations to support the Agency in its activities.

In her response, the NDLEA Commander CN Odilli said the command had done a lot in sensitising the public, rehabilitating and counselling those involved in the abuse of drugs, noting that ‘’we will intensify effort, especially on pregnant women, who take drugs during pregnancy and those who take it when breastfeeding, as it has an adverse effect on their children”.
