ABIODUN SEEKS COOPERATION OF FRSC ON TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has sought the cooperation of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) by joining hands with theTraffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) in the management of traffic along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

Governor Abiodun made this known in Abeokuta, while playing host to the Acting Corps Marshal, FRSC, Dauda Biu, stating that it was important to have effective traffic management on the corridor, particularly during the road construction.

Abiodun, who described the pains that people experience on the section of the road as unhealthy, said the behaviour of the contractor handling the construction work around the corridor was completely unacceptable, noting that his administration had embarked on the reconstruction of over 400 kilometers of road, some of which were federal roads, and expressed delight with the Corps for its aggressive sensitisation on the ‘ember months’ awareness campaign.

The Governor acknowledged President Muhammadu Buhari for championing the reconstruction of Lagos-Ibadan expressway, saying the State government in conjunction with the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority was working on how to build a befitting trailer park along the corridor.

"There was a committee set up that consisted of representatives of FRSC, Office of the State Chief of Staff, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing that were looking at the Ogere trailer park, which has become a problem, because the trailers will park recklessly. It has become a rest spot for people going to the north, they park on the road, creating a bottleneck, thereby causing accidents and even damaging the road”, he said.

Earlier in his remarks, the Acting Corps Marshal, FRSC, Dauda Biu commended the Governor for his strides in infrastructural development of the State, saying the launch of its ‘ember month’ campaign would help to reduce road crashes on the road, assuring that the Corps would continue to put in its best, towards assisting the government in traffic management.

On the entourage of the Corps Marshal were the Lagos Sector Commander, Segun Ogungbemide, Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kassim and the Ogun State Sector Commander, Hameed Umar.
