LIONS CLUB INTERNATIONAL DONATES MODULAR EYE CENTER TO ADO-ODO OTA LG
In a bid to provide a model primary eye care and increasing accessibility to eye care in Ado Odo Ota Local Government area and Ogun State as a whole, the International Association of Lions Club District 404 BI recently donated a well equipped Modular Eye Center of international standard at Ijoko Health Center of the Council area.
The District Governor Lion Kema Ashibuogwu PMJF, NLCF KSJI ably represented by Past District Governor (PDG) Lion Lynda Odunmbaku in her address stated that, the International Association of Lions Clubs District 404 BI in its usual practice of making lives easier for the common man at all times, donated a modular eye center to the people of Ijoko in Ado-Odo Ota Local Government area to address the major challenges of eye care in Nigeria which includes availability, accessibility and affordability. Specifically in Ogun State. She identified barriers which the project aim to address as distance of hospitals from rural dwellers, poverty cost and ability to pay for treatment, fear of exploration, fear of outcome of treatment, seriousness of the problem, ability to cope with eye disease amongst others.
The Ogun State Honorable Commissioner for Health Dr Tomi Coker ably represented by Dr Oluwaloni Onabolu appreciated the efforts of The International Association of Lions Clubs District 404 BI for coming into the health sector of Ogun State with laudable projects meant for the people of the State. She also added that the International Association of Lions Clubs District 404 BI has established six modular eye centers in Imeko Afon, Ayetoro Yewa North, Idiroko, Ipokia, Ilaro Yewa South and Ijoko Ado-Odo Ota Local Government areas respectively. She added that, the Eye Centers will be managed by the Lions Clubs International Foundation and Ogun State Government under a Project Management Committee as established with a MOU duly signed by both parties on 19th May 2022. These projects are supported by Lions Clubs International Foundation is (LCIF) under grant number DES 19963/404-BI with project building renovation, equipment and training of Medical Staff and Data Technicians.
The Executive Secretary Ogun State primary Health Care Board Dr Ehlijah Ogunsolu ably represented by Mr Tola Aina thanked the International Association of Lions Clubs District 404 BI for their humanitarian services to the people of the State. He said that, while focussing on correcting refractive errors, the centres will also identify and educate people with other binding conditions and refer them to the Ogun State General Hospital Ota for further medical and surgical interventions.
The Executive Chairman Ado Odo Ota Local Government Engr Sheriff Adewale Musa appreciated the Governor of Ogun State His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR and Her Excellency Lion Engr. Noimot Salako Oyedele PMJF NLCF for providing an enabling environment which motivated the International Association of Lions Clubs District 404 BI in providing humanitarian services and people oriented projects at all times. He equally thanked the club for partnering with government at providing accessible and affordable projects to the people at the grassroots.
The Council Boss, urged the people of Ijoko and the Council area to make good use of the facility that has been certified as international standard. He assured the Club of regular patronage and adequate protection of the Modular Eye Center.
