OGUN, OYO TO SET UP JOINT SECURITY TASK FORCE TO TACKLE INSECURITY
In an effort to tackle security challenges in their border areas, Ogun and Oyo State governments have resolved to set up a joint Border Security Take Force made up of various security agencies in the two states to patrol their border communities.
In a Communique issued at the end of joint security meeting held at the Presidential Lodge, Abeokuta, the two governors also agreed to set up a high level Joint Security Committee to focus on and proactively address security matters along the boundary communities and inter- State roads.
Members of the task force which would be trained and re-oriented on the rules of engagement to prevent an unwholesome practices, would ensure security of lives and properties of residents and commuters at the border areas.
The Committee, according to the Communique, will meet at regular interval's to provide oversight, review progress and take necessary action as well as jointly collaborate on emergencies and distressed calls especially on the highways that connect the two states.
The Joint Task Force is also to share experiences and intelligence for security matters to assist the overall safety and security of lives and properties in the two states and the nation at large.
The Communique stated that to achieve its aims the task force would effectively engage, cooperate and collaborate with all stakeholders including but not limited to the federal government, states, non-state actors, traditional institution, religious groups, Community Development Associations, whose inputs and support are required to boost security in the two states and around the border communities.
The meeting agreed that the threat assessment and analysis along the borders corridors, it would deplore CCTV on the interstate highways, set up campus along the border communities for use by the joint task force.
It also agreed the harmonisation and mainstreaming of voluntary policing and informal security outfits, channels and diligent prosecution of criminals to signify the resolve of both states to clamp down on criminalities.
The Attorney Generals of both states are to ensure synergy between the law enforcement agencies and their prosecution department during investigation and prosecute phases of each case.
