OGUN, WHO VACCINATE PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV/AIDS AGAINST COVID-19

As part of efforts to vaccinate 50 percent of the population in the ongoing nationwide mass vaccination against COVID-19, the Ogun State Government in conjunction with the World Health Organisation (WHO), has taken the campaign to the People Living With HIV /AIDS (PLWHA)

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, while speaking in Abeokuta at a 3-day sensitisation programme for selected 50 members of PLWHA drawn from five Local Government Areas, which include, Abeokuta North, Abeokuta South, Ifo, Ijebu-Ode and Sagamu, said the move was an integrated service which afforded the government to integrate HIV into COVID-19 vaccination.

Coker also described the step as a one-stop shop which makes the use of health resources more efficient, adding that the routine check-up of people living with HIV/AIDS gives the health workers access to them without stress.

"The idea of taking the vaccination campaign to People Living With HIV/AIDS is to render an integrated service to bring HIV into COVID-19 vaccination, which in a way makes the use of health resources more efficient among this group of people", she said.
