COMMUNITY LEADERS TASKED ON BETTER MANAGEMENT OF THEIR DOMAINS
Community leaders across Ogun State have been told to avail themselves of the skills that can make them better managers of their respective communities, to further sustain peaceful co-existence and promote socio-economic development of the State.
Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat made this call at the closing ceremony of a 4-day Citizenship and Leadership training course for community leaders at the Social Development Institute, Shasha, Iperu in Remo Local Government Area.
Ganiyu, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Ms. Oluseye Fatudimu revealed that the objective of the training was to enhance ability of participants on leadership skills and acquaint them with government’s policies and programmes for socio-economic development of the State.
He stated that the Institute was established by late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, to train leaders on how to run affairs of their communities effectively, saying "his legacies are there for all to see and we want you to contribute your quota to the development of the community you are representing, as well as our dear State".
The Commissioner said the State government had recorded tremendous achievements in education, agriculture, infrastructure, security, among others, underscoring the need for community leaders to support the present administration in actualising its desired goals.
Also speaking, the Deputy Director, Community Department in the Ministry, Mr. Segun Soyele said the first batch of the training recorded a total of 455 participants with 347 males and 105 females, while the second batch had 821 participants with 656 males and 165 females drawn from the three Senatorial Districts of the State.
A participant representing Ibafo Community Development Area, Mr. Sulaimon Mujaidu commended the Ministry on its efforts for the success of the programme, noting that issues affecting communities were adequately addressed during the training. He urged the co-participants to debrief others in their respective communities about the knowledge gained to bring about greater communal development.
