OGSG ADOPTS STAR ATHLETE, PROMISES MORE SUPPORT

In its bid to encourage more youths into sporting activities, Ogun State Government has adopted Oluwatobiloba Amusan, an  indigene of the State, a track and field athlete, who specialises in 100 metres hurdles and competes as a sprinter.

Oluwatobiloba, was born on April 23, 1997, and won the 2018 Commonwealth and 2019 African Championship, a two-time All African Games champion, whose highest ranking is third in the world.

Prince Dapo Abiodun while receiving the Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Hon. Sunday Dare in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, who had called to break the cheering news, said the Minister should not hesitate to look out for more indigenes of the State, who are doing well, assuring that his government is ready to support them.

"I am very proud to hear that one of Ogun State daughter is doing well and making us proud, and we are ready to support and nurture them to actualise the dreams of the State indigene, every time they excel in any area of endeavour. So, Tobi Amusan is adopted as a star athlete. We will like to know other upcoming indigenes of the State, because the joy will not only be ours, but to the glory of the entire country’’, he said.

Abiodun added that it was important for government to continue to find ways to further harmonise the nation, as against things that divide us, saying sporting activities over the years had shown that it is the right tool, for erasing all forms of unrest.

He noted that his administration would be having a sports trust fund, to be consistently funded with a certain percentage on a monthly basis, while it would be willing to host the Sports Festival, urging the Minister to ensure that the festival was not defeated and limited to a particular region.

In his remarks, the Minister, Hon. Dare said his Ministry would set up a committee that would be saddled with the responsibility of reviving the festival, which would not depart from its original vision and mandate.

Hon. Dare, while commending the Governor for his strides in agriculture and the recently launched Digital Technology initiative, said the Ministry would deepen its partnership with the State government by making policy commitments and work out a plan of action.
