 INSECURITY: NIGERIANS TASKED ON REDEDICATION TO THE COURSE OF HUMANITY

Nigerians, regardless of their religious beliefs need to rededicate themselves to the course of humanity, as the nation is battling with insecurity, the Chief of Staff to the Ogun State Governor, Alhaji Shuaib Salisu has said.


 Alhaji Salisu gave the admonition in Abeokuta at the 6th annual Ramadan lecture for 1442AH, organised by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Information Chapel, with the theme, "Islamic Perspective in Solving Insecurity Across the Globe ", pointing out that the fight against insecurity is a collective responsibility that should not be left in the hands of the government alone.

The Chief of Staff who observed that the theme, was apt at this time that the nation is facing the challenge of insecurity, charged Muslim faithful across the nation to use the Ramadan period to join others in solving the security challenges, noting that the Islamic point of view to tackle the menace became necessary to establish peaceful coexistence, irrespective of religion and ethnic affiliation.

          ‘’One religion cannot solve the problem of insecurity, we have a responsibility as Muslims and Christians to be part of the solution to the problems of the society, which has become a menace in our society”, he suggested.  

The Chief of Staff charged journalists to always be at the forefront in providing solutions to the problems of the society, enjoining them to use their discretion properly in their reportage, so as to prevent chaos in the country.

           On his part, the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Alhaji Abdulwaheed Odusile, while quoting from the Quran chapter 4 verse 128, “said it was no exaggeration that Islam abhors violence, rather it focuses on measures that encourages promotion of peaceful coexistence and harmony”.

Odusile also restated the Prince Dapo Abiodun's led administration’s commitment to ensuring the security of lives and property through some steps already taken, the latest of which was the recent launch of the ‘Amotekun’ Corps, provided with  operational vehicles and other gadgets.

Addressing the theme of the lecture, the guest lecturer, Sheikh Muhammad Sanusi, popularly known as ‘Ami Olohun’, said insecurity challenge bedeviling the country, would be a thing of the past, when people imbibe virtues, such as forgiveness, perseverance, among others.

"Open your hearts to forgive others, irrespective of their mistakes, this will bring peace. To change Africa, African must change and to Change Nigeria, Nigerians must change their mindset ", Sanusi said.

The Islamic Cleric urged the people to  shun retaliation, embrace peace with one another and desist from taking laws into their hands, stressing that human lives were important and should not be taken by another fellow.

He equally charged Information Managers to use their knowledge to disseminate  insightful messages that would enable people cultivate best attitude that would bring about development rather than destruction

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ministry of Information Chapel, Comrade Wale Olarenwaju, said the Chapel, realised the significance of Ramadan, and the need to bring members together in the spirit of achieving unity, appreciating the Chief of Staff and other dignitaries for their support.
