TRACE, NMA COLLABORATE TO REDUCE DEATHS ON ROADS
In a bid to minimise deaths from road accidents across the State, the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) and Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), have resolved to build capacity of Rescue Team in the agency.
The Head of Service, Alhaja Selimot Ottun while declaring open a 2-day workshop, with the theme ‘Capacity Building in Rescue and Casualty Handling’, at NMA office in Abeokuta, said the training would broaden knowledge and skill of officers in the rescue of accident victims, and resuscitate them before receiving medical attention.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Service Matters, Mr. Dahunsi Ogunleye, Ottun emphasised that the performance and productivity of employees could only improve when they undergo regular training, saying "if the output of employees must improve, then continuous training of staff should be given priority".
Speaking, the Corps Commander and Chief Executive Officer, TRACE, Commander Olaseni Ogunyemi said despite the COVID-19 pandemic and restriction of vehicular movement last year, a total of 176 on the spot deaths were recorded, noting that the Corps remained committed to reduce the trend, as the workshop would assist officers in their various duty posts.
Similarly, Area Commander, Training and Public Education, Commander Olabode Abdul stated that the rate at which accident victims die was becoming alarming, hence the determination of the Corps to minimise such occurrence.
In his contribution, the Chairman, NMA, Ogun State Chapter, Dr. Dayo Ogunlaja said the body was proud to identify with TRACE, saying the collaboration would improve service delivery of officers, as well as enable them understand the basics of treating accident victims with multiple injuries, and help them stop hemorrhage.
One of the participants, Commander Gabriel Odunlami said the workshop had widened his horizon and better informed on how to rescue accident victims on the roads.
