Towards meeting the increasing number of applicants seeking to benefit from its affordable housing scheme, the Ogun State Government is putting up measures to deliver more units across the three Senatorial District of the State.
Commissioner for Housing, Jagunmolu Akande Omoniyi made this known while addressing members of the State chapter of the Nigeria Institute of Building during their visit to the on-going construction site at Kobape, Abeokuta.
Omoniyi said provision of affordable housing in phases would continue, in order to accommodate more subscribers in the scheme, saying the first phase which was successfully completed with the state-of-the art infrastructural facilities prompted people to key into the second phase, being constructed through Ministry of Housing and Ogun State Housing Corporation.
The Commissioner described the State government estates under construction as one of the best and cheapest, adding that its intervention in housing sector has facilitated the construction of Kemta, Idi- Aba 2, Sagamu, Ilaro, Ikenne, Ota and Ijebu-Ode.
“Government is not just building houses, but also empowering the people through engagement of artisans in various aspects of building businesses, thereby touching lives positively”, he said.
Earlier in his remark, Chairman of the Institute, Builder. Yinka Olatunji noted that the visit of the members was to affirm quality of materials being used, saying they were satisfied with the standard.
Olatunji added that the group was working tirelessly to curb the menace of building collapse in the society, imploring people to always patronise professionals in the built sector.
