Ogun State Alternate Medicine Board has charged practitioners in the sub-sector, to ensure validation of necessary documents and follow the new guidelines, in order to generate accurate database needed to overhaul the health sector.
The Board Chairman, Balogun Nurudeen Olaleye gave this charge during an inspection of alternate medicine facilities in Owode Yewa, Yewa South Local Government Area of the State, saying the Board is committed to ensuring ethical compliance of practitioners.
Balogun Olaleye noted that the process of gathering accurate data and ensuring practitioners abide by the rules guiding the conduct of the profession, necessitated the visit, saying the present government would not relent in transforming the sector.
‘’The bill that established the Board made it mandatory that proper monitoring and re-orientation of the practitioners is crucial for certification, to enable them practice effectively, and in line with World Health Organisations' policies for Alternate Medicine Practice. In recent years, some countries and State governments, have developed their national and regional policies, as well as regulations to promote the safe and effective use of traditional medicine", he said.
The Board Chairman appealed to the people of the State to continue to embrace traditional medicine, saying it would help in achieving accelerated economic growth.
In her contribution, the Board Registrar/Secretary, Dr. Kafayat Lawal, affirmed that alternate medicine is thriving in many countries of the world, adding that it had contributed to not less than 75 percent of people’s healthcare services annually.
Speaking on behalf of practitioners in the area, Alhaja Salamat Animasaun commended the Board for its efforts at improving the practice in the State, soliciting for modern equipment that would enhance their operations.
