OGSG, NAPTIP JOINING HANDS TO ERADICATE HUMAN TRAFFICKING

 Ogun State Government is collaborating with the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), to eradicate the menace of human trafficking, child molestation, rape, threats to life and other related offences, the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Akingbolahan Adeniran has revealed.


Adeniran who is also the Chairman of the Committee on Child and Human Trafficking in the State, made this revelation during the inauguration of Coordinators and Sub-committees of Task Force on Human Trafficking in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

He stated that it was important to sensitise members of the public on the side effects of human trafficking, noting that the committees were constituted to fight against child trafficking and work towards possible communication channels to suppress crime, as the State is close to some border areas of the country.

"Indeed, the victims' protection and eradication of human trafficking is our priority, also the emergency response to strengthen and enhance effective legal means to prevent the root causes of the menace must be addressed’’, the Commisioner said.

In her remarks, the Regional Director of NAPTIP, who also doubles as Vice Chairman of the Committee, Mrs. Kehinde Akomolafe, said proper collaboration among law enforcement agencies remained the panacea for effecting crime prevention in the country.

Akomolafe noted that offences like, rape, threats to life, aggravated physical and psychological injury, production and presentation of false identity or travel documents, money laundering, among others should be looked into with a view to curbing them.

She stated that the offences were in the Penal and Criminal Codes, and could be prosecuted adequately by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), saying her Agency has continued to implement the most comprehensive and integrated model that currently exists in global terms.

The Committees inaugurated are Education, Media and Publicity, Empowerment, Shelter, Intelligence and Data Sharing, Emergency Response, Legal, Prosecution, Monitoring and Evaluation, Medical and Psycho-social and Victim Protection.
