In a bid to curb the spread of the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, Ogun State Government has taken a step further through the procurement of advanced testing machines that would detect and give results of infected persons immediately.
Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, who also doubles as the Head of COVID-19 Special Task Force in the State, Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo disclosed this while featuring on a Television programme, "Oju Koro", said the present administration would leave no stone unturned to prevent the spread of the pandemic, saying the wellbeing of its citizenry is germane to the administration.
Dr. Taiwo said the special task force, comprising of personnel from Ministries of Justice, Health, Judiciary among others, were set up to ensure strict compliance with the COVID-19 guidelines and protocols, and educate the people on the dangers in disregarding the preventive measures.
“The essence of the task force is not to make money or humiliate anyone, but to create awareness, sensitise and educate the people on the dangers inherent in the virus and the need to use the nose masks, which will not only protect them but their loved ones.
“Usage of nose mask is now a law in Ogun State and violators will be penalised by performing community service or pay a fine between N1,000 to N2,000 or according to the decision of the Mobile Court. So far, the level of compliance to the rules has increased by over seventy percent", the Commissioner emphasised.
He added that the team had been to Ijebu-Ode and would reach all the nooks and crannies of the State, including markets, parks and garages leaders are sensitised, while enforcement would not be left out.
The Commissioner added that despite the effects of the virus on the economy, particularly the tourism industry, maintained that the State Ministry of Culture and Tourism would sustain the standards, as pacesetters in cultural festivals with high level of compliance to COVID-19 rules.
