HELP SUSTAIN PROFESSIONALISM - ODUSILE CHARGES NBC

The Ogun State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Alhaji Abdulwaheed Odusile, has called on the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), to address the menace of fake news in broadcast media, in order to sustain professional standards in the journalistic profession.

Odusile who said this at the 5th Anniversary Lecture of SWEET FM radio station, at the Conference Hotel, Abeokuta, stated that the broadcast media are smashed with some discussion, where opinions were stated as facts, thus misleading the public.

"It is high time NBC did more to arrest the ugly trend of misleading information dissemination. The public look forward to the media for reliable facts and broadcasters, by virtue of their work, are influencers. In this respect, whoever has the privilege to be seen or heard must maintain the standard", he said.

The Commissioner, while commending owner of the radio station, Senator Olugbenga Obadara for the feat recorded, also called on investors to harness the opportunity in the media, as a viable investment, saying the government of Prince Dapo Abiodun is willing to give its support. He expressed satisfaction at the stride made by him, saying it has given employment to youths who have passion for media jobs.

In his remarks, a politician and Chief Executive Officer, Lucinda  Media, Senator Obadara, cleared the air on the wrong notion that people might have about the establishment of SWEET FM, going by his love for politics, saying the station is not politically influenced.

"Let me say it here that my goal of establishing SWEET FM is not to set up a political radio, even though I am a politician, my goal is to help develop the entrepreneurship skills of the people of Nigeria, and provide jobs for the youth of our nation", he said.
