US election: Trump trails as Biden wins Georgia recount

Joe Biden has won the United States election vote recount in Georgia.

BBC reports that the former Vice President beat President Donald Trump by 12,284 votes, according to the audit required by state law.

The recount found the error rate was maximum 0.73 percent and that Biden’s gap of victory over Trump remained at under 0.5 percent.

Biden had said Trump knew he was not going to win and had shown “incredible irresponsibility”.

The Democrat’s margin in overall votes in the November 3 poll exceeds 5.9 million.

The former Senator’s triumph by US Electoral College system is projected to be 306 to 232.

Georgia’s Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger, insisted that the hand audit of ballots did not favour Biden.

In a statement on Thursday, the Republican said Georgia’s historic first statewide audit reaffirmed that the state’s new secure paper ballot voting system accurately counted and reported results.

“This is a credit to the hard work of our county and local elections officials who moved quickly to undertake and complete such a momentous task in a short period of time”, Raffensberger noted.

The General Services Administration (GSA) is yet to recognize Biden as the President-elect.
