To further promote the sanctity of human lives and safe motoring across the State, government has assured that the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), would be better equipped to deliver on its set mandate.
The Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun who gave the assurance during the 5th Corps Commanders' Conference and 15th Annual lecture, held at Valley View Auditorium, Government House, Isale-Igbein, Abeokuta, noted that the initiative become imperative to give credence and support to its 24hours surveillance programme for effective service delivery.
Abiodun, represented by the Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo said the present administration is also committed to equipping TRACE with needed personnel adding, that the ministry of transportation would provide necessary support to the Corps to adequately prevent loss of lives and ensure quick response to accident victims across the State.
The Corps Commander and Chief Executive, Commander Olaseni Ogunyemi, in his speech said, TRACE being an agency that has been existing for 15 years, is in charge of traffic management and safety of road users, adding that it would continue to improve the public safety and behavioural pattern of motorists.
"Let me assure you all that as TRACE marks its 15th anniversary, we will continue to improve and increase the safety consciousness, awareness and behavioural pattern of road users, improve access to commerce and industry to drive the State's economy, ensure prompt removal of abandoned and accidents vehicles from the road, timely evacuation of victims, effective handling of State assigned programmes and enhanced our 24hrs operational activities for the benefit of all and sundry", he explained.
The TRACE boss appreciated the present administration, as a government that is responsible and responsive to safety of motorists by donating operational vehicle, 15 patrol motorbikes , 30 crash helmets, as well as refurbishment of three heavy duty tow trucks and mobile court caravan to modern usage.
While declaring the anniversary lecture open, the Head of Service, Alhaja Selimot Ottun commended the efforts of TRACE officers for their prompt response to accident victims, and bringing sanity to roads in the State, adding that government would continue to support them for efficient service delivery.
The guest lecturer, Professor Iyiola Oni, in his paper titled, Emerging Issues in Road Traffic and Safety Management: Challenges and Prospects, said TRACE should deploy strategies, on education and enlightenment, enforcement, emergency response, evaluation and monitoring, engagement of stakeholders and environment to be their operational approaches in the discharge of their duties.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Head of Operations, Ado-odo/Ota, Commander Victoria Olaoke, appreciated the State government and TRACE, for the workshop, adding that it would help them in their operational activities.
