Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has assured that projects being constructed in 20 Local Government Areas of the State are just a tip of the iceberg, as another phase would begin in few months.
Governor Abiodun who disclosed this during the commissioning of some projects in Yewa North Local Government of the State said government would undertake projects according to the specification and needs of the people.
“All these projects you are seeing today are what our people requested. We did not choose the projects, we asked chairmen for the needs of their people, and we approved those projects for execution,” the Governor said.
The Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Afolabi Afuape, urged the beneficiaries to take ownership of the projects by ensuring effective use and maintenance.
Earlier in his welcome address, Transition Committee Chairman, Mr. Babatunde Bankole appreciated the Governor for his commitment to uplifting Local Councils in the State, calling for more intervention in the area of road rehabilitation and construction to aid movement of farm produce to urban center.
Speaking at the event, the immediate past Speaker, State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Suraj Adekunbi said the basic responsibility of any government is to ensure the security and wellbeing of its citizens, adding that the present administration had scored high in those areas.
He appreciated Governor Abiodun for giving the chairmen free hands to operate, noting that he was glad the projects were done based on need assessments.
Another indigene of the area, Alaba Awoyemi called for government’s support for women in accessing grants for farming and trading, to empower them economically and improve their living conditions.
The projects commissioned include, modern lockup shops and office accommodation at Ibese, convenience at Oja Odan market, as well as installation and energisation of 500KVA transformer at Idi Ori.
