Ogun State Government has said that the collaborative efforts of the private sector and Non -Governmental Organisations (NGOs), in the area of skill acquisition would further address the challenge of unemployment thereby enhancing the socio-economic growth and development of the country.
The Deputy Governor, Engr.Noimot Salako- Oyedele who made this known during the commissioning of Ota Diamond Lions Club Skill Acquisition and Wellness Center, at Oju-Ore Ota, noted that Government will not relent in its efforts to partner with any interested organisation.
Represented by Senior Special Assistant, Office of the Deputy Governor, Hon, Kolawole Salako, Engr. Salako- Oyedele said the present administration has intensified efforts at ensuring that issue of unemployment is reduced to the barest minimum, if not eradicated from the system, adding that this could be achieved through vocational and skill acquisition programmes.
“It is about time our youths look inward and eschew white-collar job, rather, focus more on trade skill, which is an embodiment of skill acquisition that will in no-doubt empowers our youths to be globally competitive”, she said.
She added that recently, Governor Dapo Abiodun had a session launching a programme in which 250 youths were drawn from each of the 20 Local Government Areas of the State for training on different vocational skills capable of advancing the country in general.
The Deputy Governor commended the doggedness of Ota Diamond Lions Club (ODLC), for being part of Governor Dapo Abiodun's led - administration agenda of " Building Our Future Together".
In his remarks, President of the Club, Lion Mustapha Ajelara highlighted some of the mission to include: contributing positively to lives of the active population and individual wellbeing through a healthy lifestyle approach, catering for the mental health needs of community members, training the youths with the necessary skills that would tie their visions to practical steps, amongst others.
Ajelara solicited more support from the government, corporate organisations and well- meaning Nigerians within and outside our community.
