BISHOP ADVISES YOUTHS TO JUDICIOUSLY UTILISE THEIR POTENTIALS

Youths have been told to take advantage of their rich potentials, population strength, with the mindset that they are future leaders, towards advancing the country for better tomorrow.

The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Yewa, Rt. Revd. Michael Adebayo Oluwarohunbi who gave the advice during a football match between Diocese of Ifo and Yewa, marking its 30th anniversary, at the Gateway Stadium, Ilaro, appealed to the youths to reject all kinds of crime and engage in meaningful and productive activities.

According to Olurohunbi, "Our youths should be focused, have good character and  should have the fear of God. What we are seeing these days is not good enough. Some youths involve themselves in crimes and many other social vices which are undermining the growth and development of our society and the country at large’’.

"Many of our youths are gifted, energetic, resourceful and promising. What I want them to do is to see the potentials in them and see how they can apply it positively, to add value to society. They should reject all kinds of crime, and by so doing our environment will be peaceful and conducive for creativity and better use of their ideas and resourcefulness", the Bishop said.

The cleric also implored government to use the Sports sector to stimulate the youth of the country towards redirecting their energy and time into something more meaningful, urging it to design programmes, activities and allocate funds to the sector, to make it more attractive and interesting to the youth in tackling unemployment and source of revenue generation.

"If government can allocate money to the sector, I tell you, the youth will take advantage of it to keep body and soul together. This I believe will reduce their restlessness for them to participate in the development of the society", He posited.

He said that sports activities were a unifying factor that brings people together irrespective of tribe, sex, age and religion, adding that the Diocese was to discover and encourage talented youths and help them build a career in sports.

At the end of the football match, Yewa Diocese team defeated, Ifo Diocese by 5 goals to 1, Churches in the Bishop Office came 1st under the female category relay race competition, Idiroko provisional Archdeaconry bagged 2nd, while Yewa North-West Archdeaconry came 3rd position respectfully.
