In Furtherance to the progress recorded in Ota Diamond Lions Club, Lion Mustapha Ajelara, has been decorated as the 20th President under the District 404B1, Association of Lions Clubs International.
In compliance to the laid down procedures of the club Lion Ajelare is to control the affairs of the Club for 2020-2021 Lions year.
Lion Ajelara took over the mantle of leadership from the Past President Lion Princess Temilade Amadi, who coordinated the affairs of the Club for 2019-2020 Lions year.
Speaking at the event, the District 404B1 Governor, Lions Lynda Oluremi Odunmbaku, who is also elected to pioneer the affairs of the District for 2020-2021, said her target for the year is to ensure completion of Badagry Lions Eye Centre located at Badagry General Hospital and Dialysis Centre inside General Hospital in Ota, Ogun State with required new technology equipments.
She urged all members of Lions Clubs to increase membership strengths by at least 21 per cent, alleviate suffering diabetics, providing vision for the blind and visually impaired, give food for the hungers, maximum support in reducing the childhood cancer and environmental degradation which are the main adopted projects of the largest family in humanitarian service provider.
The Immediate Past President,Lion Amadi, said her administration recorded landmark achievements, which include bi-weekly activity of feeding school pupils breakfast, an activity, she added beneffited over 3000 pupils.
According to Lion Amadi, over 2000 people benefitted from eye screening/donation of glasses to those that needed it, over 1000 beneffited from diabetes screening including provision of diabetes drugs, donation of complete school uniforms to less-priviledged children, provisions of protective stands for Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), and empowering youths with different acquisition skills.
She said ODLC has for the past 12 months engaged vividly in childhood cancer awareness across hospitals, donated awareness materials for schools and hospitals, and as well donated palliatives to the needies to cushion the effect of COVID-19.
In his acceptance speech, Lion Ajelara, thanked members of the Club for the love and confidence reposed on him by elected him as the President that will control the affairs of the Club for the maximum of one year.
He said the ODLC slogan for 2020- 2021 shall be 'impacting service - through diversity'. He added that the slogan was chosen to express the core values of the Lions services to the communities."Lions Clubs don't just serve the world but they represent the world."
"The Hallmark of service is to create positive impact on the recipient. A service without positive impact is a service not rendered. Diversity in Lions terms means changing some habits in secondary dimensions of diversity wheels. We are stronger when we serve through diversity. There are many ways to do good".
He said his administration as the President will focus on establishing ODLC income through the wellness centre, completion of Orile Erinko Community Health Centre, continuous donation of drinking water to patient and staff of General Hospital Ota on monthly basis and as well leverage on the existing projects of Lions Clubs International.
Lions Ajelara sought the support of all members of the Club to enable him have a remarkable tenure.
The a-week-long programme featured award presentation to dignitaries who have contributed quota to societal development and humanitarian services, eye screening, donation of white cane to the vision impaired people, protective glasses to welders and motorcyclists, novelty match and commissioned of the Club's skills acquisition/wellness centre.
The event was well attended by dignitaries across the country. It was also used to seek financial assistance to complete all the ongoing projects of the club.
