Engineer Akin-George Fashola, Director, Lagos state Vehicle Inspection Service, (VIS), in this interview with OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, at their sprawling Ojodu Complex, gave insight of how automation has accentuated the capacity of the agency to effectively do its work, increased compliance and improved safety on our roads. Excerpts: In your own words, can you tell us the responsibilities of the Lagos state vehicle inspection service, especially in the promotion of road safety and accelerating traffic flow on Lagos roads? Our vision is to serve the people of Lagos State by delivering efficient and automated service that would ensure safe road transportation that meets Global Standards. Our mission is to ensure safety on Lagos State roads by equipping officers in the service with requisite skills within a well structured environment. To train and employ scientific testing of prospective drivers, automated road worthiness certificate processing and organising regular road safety campaigns to create awareness to the public through a seamless working synergy with road traffic agencies, fleet companies, transport unions and other stakeholders in the transport industry.
