OGSG URGES FARMERS TO LIASE WITH EXTENSION AGENTS

Farmers in Ogun State have been told to work with the extension agents and traditional rulers in their localities to benefit from various intervention programmes of the State Government.

Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina said this, while distributing planting material palliatives to small holder farmers at Ala-Ijebu in Odogbolu Local Government Area of the State, he said that by doing so, farmers would have the opportunity of being registered for proper mentoring and identifying with extension agents, traditional rulers and farmers’ association for best agronomical practices.

Represented by the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture, Dr. (Mrs.) Adelaja-Kuye, Odedina said that in spite of COVID-19 pandemic, farmers must plant in order to provide food for the people and raw materials for industrial use.

He encouraged interested farmers to register for Anchor Borrowers' Programme under which they would be linked to land, credit facilities, input as well as off-takers after harvest.

"This is one of the policies of Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration for the people to make them enjoy dividends of democracy. It is not too late to register for Anchor Borrowers' Programme if you've not done so. Our extension agents will carry you along and get you trained", he admonished.

In his remarks, the Okemu of Ala-Ijebu, Oba Johnson Dehinbo congratulated the farmers for the planting materials received, urging them to collaborate with government to make the programme a success.

Appreciating government on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Israel Adekoya said, the materials given would afford the farmers to produce good and have seedlings for next year's planting season.
