Determined to reposition teaching performance in schools, Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in collaboration with Teach For Nigeria (TFN) and Profuturo Foundation, has trained 5,000 public primary school teachers on knowledge and skill enhancement.
Delivering the keynote address during the flag-off of the two-week virtual training programme in Abeokuta, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary and Secondary Education, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, pointed out that several projects were ongoing in public primary schools across the State by the Dapo Abiodun led-administration, to further improve learning and teaching conditions of teachers and learners.
Mrs. Soyombo while commending the organisers, said the two weeks training would cover classroom vision and planning, classroom management and culture, checking for understanding, digital learning, leading school system change and school transformation, among others, promising government’s commitment to safe reopening of other categories of schools in the State.
"Since inception, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun had demonstrated a rare courage and ingenuity to reposition the standard of education in the State in order to sustain and improve its enviable position in Nigeria. Thus, his administration is currently executing several projects to enhance the teaching and learning environment in our schools’’, she said.
Earlier in his remark, the Board Secretary, Mr. Olamilekan Kuye, noted that the training was organised to build successful teachers that could cope with 21st Century classroom challenges, adding that it would also enable teachers compete favourably with their contemporaries, internationally.
Speaking, the Executive Director, Profuturo Foundation, Mrs. Tope Akintunde, said the training, which would be interactive, was aimed at upgrading participants’ knowledge on post Covid-19 teaching skills, as well as enable them improve on their pupils’ academic performance.
Expressing gratitude to the State Government and organisers, one of the participants, Mrs. Adefunke Ogunkola, said the programme was apt, as it would make teachers more relevant in the current administration’s education paradigm shift, assuring that the training would be effectively cascaded in schools.
