EXCLUSIVE BREASTFEEDING, BEST FOR CHILD -OGUN GOV. 'S WIFE

          Towards boosting the nutrition of children, Ogun State Government has invested resources in promoting exclusive breastfeeding through capacity building for healthcare epractitioners on nutritional counseling.

     

     Wife of Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun made this known at an advocacy programme on breastfeeding, held in commemoration of International Breastfeeding Week, at Obada and Adeun Primary Health Centres, Ewekoro and Abeokuta North Local Governments respectively.

          Mrs. Abiodun, who was represented by wives of the Commissioner for Urban Development and Physical Planning, Mrs. Comfort Odunlami and Mrs. Keji Bajela at Obada and Adeun respectively, noted that skilled counseling services would ensure mothers and families received support needed to nourish their babies optimally.

    

      While hinting that she had been at the forefront of the campaign for exclusive breastfeeding through many fora with women and policy makers, the First Lady promised to ensure further engagements with key players in the health sector, pledging not to relent until the exclusive breastfeeding rate of the State, which was 20.9 percent, according to Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS 2017), was doubled within two years.

          Healthcare practitioners at the events enlightened nursing mothers further on the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding, as well as the best posture for both mother and baby’s convenience, while breastfeeding.

          They also enjoined mothers to visit Primary Health Centres, after the first six months of the exclusive breastfeeding, in order to be educated on balanced diet for their babies.
