AfDB: GOV ABIODUN LINKS ADESINA'S RE- ELECTION TO TRUST
Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun has expressed excitement at the re-election of Nigeria's former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, as President of the Africa Development Bank (AfDB).
A statement from the office of the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor Abiodun, said, "it is a reaffirmation of the trust, competence on good corporate governance, due process, personal charisma and managerial acumen of one of our own’’.
"Dr. Adesina is a world-class public servant and an intellectual, who puts a human face in the execution of pro-poor strategies, which would impact on the development agenda of the continent. I am proud of his re-election and sure that Africa will be better managed, as he has the wherewithal to address challenges that stare us in the face in the post Covid-19 era.
"His re-election is well-received. Posterity will remember him for his selfless service to Nigeria, Africa and humanity after he would have served out his second tenure at the Africa Development Bank", he said.
Abiodun in the statement further said that Adesina was cleared of controversial corruption charges, after facing questions from an independent panel of experts, headed by the former Irish President, Mary Robinson, on the affairs of AfDB in July, 2020.
The statement concluded that ‘’the 60 years old Akinwumi Adesina, a charismatic speaker, is the first Nigerian to lead the AfDB in 2015, and was returned unopposed, as the Bank’s President, when he sought for another term to continue with his assignments, with an acute sense of duty and commitment".
