GOV. ABIODUN INAUGURATES STEERING COMMITTEE ON TRANSPORT MASTER PLAN


Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has inaugurated the Steering Committee on Transport Master Plan, with a charge on members to come up with recommendations, that would change the face of transportation in the State.
Inaugurating the Committee at his office in Abeokuta, Governor Abiodun noted that though technological advancement has turned the world into a global village, transportation was still vital in the socio-economic life of the society, as a means of getting goods and services to the doorsteps of the people.
He acknowledged the important role transportation plays in attracting new investments, saying this led the administration to come up with a multi-dimensional approach that would ensure formulation of practicable policies, and provide for implementation of sustainable programmes as well as infrastructure.
"Transportation Sector in Ogun State is now a strategic function that properly situates and integrates transportation as an integral part of our administration’s overall development of our dear State", the Governor emphasised.
The Governor said his administration’s vision was to serve the interest of residents, workers, visitors and businesses, as well as support socio-economic development of the State in a sustainable manner, adding that the inauguration of the Steering Committee was in furtherance of the commitment to develop the transport sector.
According to him, the Committee must ensure timely delivery of the Master Plan and its consistency with the administration's policies, aims and goals, in order to address the practical needs of the State. 
The Committee was expected to support the planning process with timely provision and access to relevant information and resources domiciled in their Ministries, Departments and Agencies, oversee the development of a Transport Master Plan that would help the State to develop a strategy for short, medium, and long-term investments to improve accessibility for residents.
Other areas of focus assigned the Committee members was to identify feasible short, medium and long-term traffic management measures, infrastructure and services needed to facilitate safe and efficient movement of people for the present and future, to guide decision taken by government and other relevant authorities related to mobility and transport.
Responding on behalf of members, the Chairman of the Committee and the Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo, noted that transportation was critical in the socio-economic wellbeing of the people, pledging the Committee’s willingness to produce a Master Plan that the State would be proud of. 
Other members of the Committee are; Commissioners for Finance and Economic Adviser to the Governor, Mr. Dapo Okubadejo, Physical Planning and Urban Development, TPL Tunji Odunlami, Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, Rural Development, Mr. Taiwo Dotun, Industry, Trade and Investments, Mrs. Kikelomo Longe, Special Adviser and Director-General, Bureau of Lands, Mr. Aina Salami, Head of Department, Transport Management, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Dr. Bashiru Raji, Faculty member in the Department, Dr. Ola Solanke, while Engr. Tosin Akinleye, Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Ministry of Transportation, would serve as the Secretary.
The Committee has 12 weeks to carry out its assignment.
