In response to the clarion call by government for increased support to cushion the effect of the lockdown on the less privileged in the society, Emmanuel Chapel, Methodist Church, Nigeria, Ikoyi, Lagos has donated 3,300 pieces of packaged food items to the Ogun State government.
Commenting, the Chaplain of the Church, Reverend Koyinsola Ajayi, said the exercise was important as more than 70 percent of Nigerians lived below poverty level, saying, "as a Church, we should do what God says we should do, we believe it is about faith and showing love to others".
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Funmi Efuwape, while receiving the items on behalf of the State government, lauded the kind initiative of the Church, which according to her came at a crucial period, when complementarities were needed by the state to cushion the effects of the lockdown on the people of the, praying that the pandemic would soon become a thing of the past.
Reacting, the Wife of the State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, who was also witnessed the presentation, reaffirmed the commitment of the State government and her office, to continue to see to the welfare of the people, urging individuals and corporate organizations to continue to lend a helping hand to the needy in the society beyond the Covid-19 pandemic.
