The Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in conjunction with Pro-Community Initiative For Livelihoods Development, Empowerment, And Sustainability (PRO-CILDES), a Non-Governmental Organisation have sensitised some selected secondary school learners on how to maintain personal hygiene for a healthy living.
Speaking during the sensitisation and donation of hygiene kits to the students at Abeokuta Grammar School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, the Executive Director of PRO-CILDES, Mr. Oludare Adewale Ogunjobi said the NGO was established to empower the lives of the people in the society who are marginalised, basically the youths, women and children.
Mr. Ogunjobi also hinted that the empowerment initiative of the organisation was to support the less privileged towards enhancing their skills, sustain themselves economically, socially and physically and thereby becomes a productive members of the society.
The Executive Director disclosed that because many of the young ones are just coming up in life and as far as life is concerned, is not properly defined direction for them yet, they are just trying to navigate themselves through life, hence
the Hygiene educational programme for the learners in the Junior Secondary School category.
Ogunjobi noted that the group had gotten the certified resource personnel to educate the young boys and girls about their bodies, how they can take care of themselves, what they need to know as far as female and male hygiene is concerned, affirming that through the event, the students have gained and benefited a lot going by their testimonies and the questions they asked.
" I appreciate the State government for giving us the opportunity to organise the programme, particularly the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology who has entrusted us with these young ones, to teach them on how to take care of their body, we believe that this programme is going to be a complimentary to all the good works that the State Government has been embarking on towards improving the lives of learners.
In her remarks, the Principal of Abeokuta Grammar School (Junior), Mrs. Oyebamiji Felicia said "a healthy man is a wealthy person, if people are healthy, they carry out their assignments with ease but a sick person won't be able to function well. Telling young ladies about their personal hygiene and how to maintain their body and keep fit is a laudable initiative"
Underscoring the importance of the event, the Lead Resource Persons, Miss Grace Ojelade explained that the goal was to help the adolescent build their esteem from the early stage, sensitise them on what to expect at the maturity age and educate them on how to care for themselves.
"We taught the ladies how to clean their private parts, how to use their hygiene kits during their menstruation, how to use their sanitary pads. We also warned them that if they did not have good hygiene during their menstruation, they can develop infection that can spread to their reproductive organs", Grace said
