Ado-Odo/Ota LG Chairman Condemns Roadside Trading After Fatal Toll Gate Accident
The Executive Chairman of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Hon. Lawal Adewale Wasiu, FCA, has condemned the persistent practice of roadside trading along major highways, particularly around the Toll Gate axis in Ota, warning that it exposes traders, motorists and commuters to grave danger.
Hon. Lawal made the remark during a visit to the scene of a tragic accident at the Toll Gate area, where a trailer tanker reportedly suffered brake failure, resulting in multiple fatalities.
The council chairman, accompanied by the Secretary to the Local Government, Mr. Ogabi Mohammed; the Supervisor for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Femi Agbeleye; and Hon. Jamiu Agboola, assessed the situation and received reports from emergency responders.
He confirmed that nine persons; eight males and one female, were involved in the incident. Six victims died instantly, while three others were rushed to a nearby hospital revealing one of the injured later died, while the remaining victims are said to be in critical condition.
Expressing deep sympathy to the families of the deceased, Hon. Lawal prayed for divine strength for them to bear the irreparable loss.
He further directed relevant security agencies to intensify enforcement of traffic and environmental regulations around the Sango-Ota and Toll Gate areas in order to prevent a recurrence and safeguard lives and property.
