BREAKING: Former Minister Of Transport Found Dead
Roman Starovoyt, Russia’s recently dismissed Minister of Transport and former governor of the border-facing Kursk region, was found de@d from a gunshot wound in his car on Monday — just hours after President Vladimir Putin removed him from office.
According to multiple Russian media outlets, Starovoyt’s body was discovered near a parked Tesla in a wooded area outside Moscow. A pistol registered in his name was found nearby. Russia’s Investigative Committee has launched a probe, citing possible s¥ic+de, though the circumstances remain unclear.
The 53-year-old had only served as transport minister since May 2024. Prior to that, he governed the Kursk region for over five years — a strategic zone bordering Ukraine that saw the largest cross-border attack since World War II in early 2025.
His sudden de@th has raised suspicions due to its timing. Just hours earlier, Putin signed a decree removing him from the ministerial post without explanation. Political analysts have tied his ouster and possible s¥ic+de to an ongoing corruption investigation concerning defence funds in the Kursk region.
The probe focuses on the suspected embezzlement of 19.4 billion rubles (around $246 million) earmarked in 2022 to strengthen border defences. Starovoyt’s successor in Kursk, Alexei Smirnov, was charged in April for misappropriating those funds. Russian media report Smirnov has implicated Starovoyt during questioning, though he denies the charges.
The development adds further turbulence to Russia’s wartime bureaucracy, especially in a transport sector already under strain from ongoing military operations.
