OGUN ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE COMMENDS ECONOMIC VALUE-CHAIN OF AGRO-CARGO AIRPORT



Members of the Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Infrastructure have conducted an assessment visit to the state Agro-Cargo International Airport, Iperu, positing that the project upon completion and take-off, would further improve the State's socio-economic values.


The Committee Chairman, Hon. Adegoke Adeyanju, in company of the Minority Leader, Hon. Lukman Adeleye and other colleague lawmakers, Hons. Olusegun Kaka, Lukmon Atobatele, Damilola Soneye and Wasiu Ayodele, who were conducted round the facility by the Project Manager, Craneburg Construction Company, Nicholas Mfarrej, noted that the project had enormous economic potential that would add value and attract investments to the State.


Hon. Adeyanju lauded the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun's ingenuity in initiating the project, stating that the level of work done by the contractor was commendable.


Responding, the Project Manager, Nicholas Mfarrej, revealed that the project was over 80 percent completed and would be delivered in record time, pointing out that adequate quality control measures with modern engineering techniques were being deployed at every phase of the construction of the project.


In another development, the lawmakers visited the damaged portion of the collector drainage on the Ojumele-Ajegunle Road in Makun, Sagamu Local Area of the State, which was being rehabilitated, tasking residents of the area to embrace maintenance culture for the project and desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse that often silts up the drainages.


The Chairman called on the Ministries of Environment, as well as Physical Planning and Urban Development, to checkmate the excesses of residents who often violate environmental and building regulations that could impede flow of water into drainages, especially during the rainy season.

GOVT. PROVIDES SOLAR LIGHT TO COMMUNTIES TO SECURE, IMPROVE LIVES


Ogun State Ministry of Rural Development has embarked on installation of solar street lights at Ore-Ofe community in Idi-Ori Abeokuta North Local Government Area (LGA) and Ebamidupe Temidire Community, Obantoko, Odeda LGA, to make life more meaningful for rural dwellers.


It could be recalled that similar exercise was also carried out at Ayerose, Koriko in Obafemi Owode Local Government, in Ogun Central; Ilobi community in Yewa South, Ogun West, as well as Orimolusi Palace Road, Oke Tako, Ijebu-Igbo, Ijebu East LGA.   


Speaking during the exercise, Commissioner for Rural Development, Mrs. Olufemi Ilori-Oduntan, described power generation as one of the major catalysts that could engender development to local communities and enhance security of lives of rural dwellers, saying that the present administration had resolved to ensure rural communities enjoy dividend of democracy and improved living standard, to curb rural- urban migration and enhance economic prosperity.


Represented by the Director of Rural Electrification, Engr. Ismail Balogun, the Commissioner said more rural communities would be light up, in line with the present administration's agenda on power generation, tagged, ‘Light up Ogun’, in which the Ministry keyed into.


He charged the community leaders to ensure proper maintenance of the project, so as to spur on the government to do more.


On his part, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Engr. Sakirudeen Salam, pointed out that government was determined to drive rural community agenda forward, in line with its mandate that all small towns in the state get boosted through renewable energy sources.


Speaking on behalf of the benefitting communities, Messers. Lawal Nosiru of Ore Ofe Idi Ori and Prince Bayo Ademolu, Ebamidupe Temidire CDA, Obantoko, expressed gratitude to the state government, noted that the initiative was proof of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s unwavering commitment to citizen's welfare, promising to take ownership of the property.

LIN, PREREQUISITE FOR WASSCE, BECE ENROLMENT IN OGUN, OGSG DECLARES


Students without Learners Identification Number (LIN) will not be allowed to enrol for West-African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in Ogun State.


Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, made the declaration during a meeting with the management team of the Ministry and executive members of Private Schools Associations in the state, disclosing that LIN would henceforth be given only to pupils enrolled into primary one classes at the point of entry.


Prof. Arigbabu stated that the purpose of the meeting was to ensure that Ogun State Education Revitalisation Agenda (OGSERA), has accurate data on learners and schools, to curb examination malpractices, indiscipline and other anomalies being perpetrated in the education sector.


He charged stakeholders both in public and private schools to ensure strict adherence to rules and regulations of the ministry, saying, "It is incumbent on all stakeholders to uphold the principle of transparency, integrity and compliance with education landscape".


          Earlier, Director of Education, Planning Research and Statistics, Mr. Temitope Lasilo, explained that the meeting was to explore how OGSERA platform could be leveraged to optimise educational outcomes and strengthen partnership between government and the private sector.


In their separate remarks, President, National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, Otunba Adekunle Osibeluwo and President, Grand Union of Private Schools Association, Ustaz Ajibola, applauded Dapo Abiodun-led administration on initiatives to standardise the education sector, pledging their continuous support and compliance with its policies and programmes.

PREVENTATIVE HEALTH SCREENINGS SAVE LIVES - OGSG


To further promote health and well-being, as well as engender productivity, Ogun State government, in collaboration with World Health Organisation, has organised free preventative health screenings for Civil Servants.


Speaking during the programme to commemorate 2024 World Health Day, with the theme, “My Health, My Right”, at the Arcade Ground, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, said people must be accountable to accessing quality healthcare services provided by government for their mental, physical and social well-being, to ensure a healthy population.


Dr. Coker enjoined Civil Servants to also play their part by enrolling for the Ogun State Health Insurance Scheme (OGSHISC), in order to access free health benefits for a minimum amount of N1,000 per month.


"We don't have to wait to the point that we are dropping dead; with health insurance, you can have your screening done, check your blood pressure, blood sugar and all other health-related screenings, free of charge", she said.


The Commissioner appreciated World Health Organisation (WHO), for its support in sensitising the people about their health, particularly the Civil Servants with different free tests including, Malaria, Hepatitis, Diabetes, Hypertension and Tuberculosis, among others.


 


In his goodwill message, State Coordinator, WHO, Dr. Akinola Fatiregun, promised the organisaton’s continued support to government and the people on their health activities.


In his welcome address, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Kayode Oladehinde, who urged people to be proactive with their health, especially Civil Servants to take advantage of the free screening for common health conditions and take steps towards living a healthier lifestyle, to justify Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration’s investment in all primary to tertiary levels in health sector across the state.

BPRS, STATE HOSPITAL TRAIN HEALTH PERSONNEL


In its commitment to provide adequate healthcare services for the citizens, the State Hospital, Ota, Ado/Odo–Ota Local Government Area of the state, in collaboration with the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, (BPRS), has organised a two-day workshop tagged, 'Leadership Improvement Programme', for Heads of Departments in the health facility.


Speaking during the workshop held at Covenant University Guests House, Ota, Ogun State, Permanent Secretary, BPRS, Mr. Jola Oyeneye, underscored the need to always rejig the system through regular capacity training of workers, to ensure improvement of service.


Mr. Oyeneye advised the management to ensure a conducive environment with well-lit wards and corridors to prevent avoidable accidents, urging participants to see the workshop as a training session to ensure improvement of service at their various duty posts.


In his remarks, Chief Medical Director (CMD), State Hospital, Ota, Dr. Ero-Philip Akinshola, informed that BPRS management was invited to help reform some activities in the Hospital and strengthen collaborative efforts of the management, as well as staff for a robust and productive output, charging staffers to be psychologically balanced and alert while attending to patients.


In his lecture titled, 'Legal Implications of Workers Negligence in the Workplace', Mr. Olumuyiwa Ogunsanwo, Director, Legal Commercial Services, Ministry of Justice, explained that negligence could come in various forms, due to the failure of healthcare providers in fulfilling their professional obligations, breeching the duty of care and not exercising reasonable degree of expected skills which could have adverse consequences on both employees and employers, including financial losses, bad reputation and legal liabilities.


He added that, "as the workplace continues to evolve, it is crucial for organisations to be proactive in minimising risks associated with negligence by implementing comprehensive training programmes, fostering a culture of responsibility, maintaining communication links and punishing any act of dereliction of duty".


While detailing what sanctions erring conducts should attract, Director of Speech Production, Governor's Office, Mr. Bode Sotoyinbo, in a lecture titled, ‘Service Rules and Extant Circulation on Misconduct/Gross Misconduct’, noted that the Public Service Rules provides operational framework, regulatory principles and a charter of rights, privileges, as well as, duties of all public servants.


"Disciplinary measures refer to corrective actions which are taken when the organisational discipline is found to have been significantly breached by one or more workers. Without these disciplinary procedures, there may be danger of inequality and injustice, even in organisations where everyone has best of intentions of acting fairly at all times", he said.


Two of the participants, Mrs. Grace Amos and Mrs. Remilekun Oduntan, appreciated the management and state government for the training, promising to put into practice knowledge gained at the workshop.

OGUN SCHOOLS TO RESUME 2023/2024 THIRD TERM ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES APRIL, 29


Public and private primary and secondary schools, as well as Government Science and Technical Colleges in Ogun State have been instructed to resume for the 2023/2024 Third Term Academic Session on Monday, April 29, 2024.


A release signed by Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, enjoined parents and guardians to prepare their wards for the resumption, as academic work would start without any delay.


It also wishes school administrators, teachers, learners and other non-academic staff, a successful new academic session in advance.
