SOUTH-WESTERN STATES TO SET UP BURIAL COMMITTEE FOR AKEREDOLU
Governors of the South-Western states under the aegis of the South-West Governors' Forum, have resolved to set up a joint committee to collaborate with the Akeredolu's family, to give the late Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, a befitting burial.
This was disclosed by the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, during a condolence visit to the home of the Akeredolus in Ibadan, Oyo State, alongside his counterparts from Osun, Ademola Adeleke; Ekiti, Biodun Oyebanji, while Seyi Makinde was represented by his deputy, Bayo Lawal.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Prince Abiodun described the deceased as a dependable, reliable, consistent and courageous person, who never hesitated to say his mind on any issue, adding that he advocated and championed the cause of a southern presidency and worked towards its success.
‘’He was a leader to all of us who gathered here today. He will be sorely missed. We commiserate with you and humbly request that you consider this as a joint responsibility of all of us. We will want to be a part of whatever plans the family will be implementing towards sending him forth.
"We’ll like to put a committee together that will have representatives from each of our states to work alongside the Ondo State government and the family in ensuring that we give our leader, a befitting burial", he said.
In an interview with journalists, the state’s helmsman said the visit was to identify with the Akeredolus in this trying moment.
"We are here on behalf of our families, the entire government and people of the South-Western states to commiserate with the family and people of Ondo State. Our prayer is that the Almighty God will forgive all his sins and grant the repose of his soul.
"We also pray that God will grant his wife, children, family members and the people of Ondo State, the heart to bear this shocking and painful exit", the Governor said.

ABIODUN CALLS FOR CONTINUOUS PEACE, PROGRESS IN ORILE-OKO
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has urged the newly installed Baale of Orile-Oko, Chief Agboola Sogbayi, to sustain the peace and progress of the community and the state.
Speaking during the Installation and Presentation of Staff of Office to the new Baale in Remo North Local Government Area of the state, Governor Abiodun charged the new ruler to put necessary mechanisms in place to ensure the stool is appropriately titled as, Oloko of Orile-Oko, so as to reflect its Part II Status, in line with other stools in the same category.
Represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, the Governor emphasised that the pivotal role traditional institution played in governance cannot be overemphasised, by serving as a bridge between the governed and the government, saying the continued cooperation, support, collaboration and prayers of the people would further ensure successful implementation of the ISEYA mantra.
‘’I commend the people of Orile-Oko town for their support, cooperation and peaceful co-existence since the stool of Baale was vacant in the community. I implore you to give your utmost support to the new Baale so that Orile-Oko can witness greater development ‘’, the Governor said.
In his welcome address, the Chairman, Remo North Local Government, Hon. Dapo Odunsi, admonished the new Baale to use his pragmatic leadership qualities to harness the potentials and resources in the land, in order to make the community a model in development.
Remarking, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, enjoined the new monarch to continue to champion and promote peace among the people, to engender the desired growth and development of the land.
In his acceptance speech, the Baale of Orile-Oko, Chief Sogbayi, appreciated the Governor for the approval to lead the people of Orile-Oko, praying that his reign would bring about unprecedented landmark achievements in the community and the entire state.
He commended the sons and daughters of the land for their immense contributions to the development of the state and Nigeria at large, appealing to them to join hands in promoting the well-being of Orile-Oko.

OGUN HoS TASKED STAFFERS ON ROBUST RELATIONSHIP
The management and staff of Ogun State Ministry of Environment has been admonished to embrace a robust relationship, less conflict, more collaboration and team work, in order to achieve the desired targets in the coming year.
The State Head of Service (HoS), Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, gave this charge during the End of the Year Thanksgiving of the Ministry, at Valley View Auditorium, Abeokuta, appreciating God for keeping the staffers alive to witness the event.
Mr. Fagbohun urged them to be guided by Public Service Rules, soliciting for continuous support for the ISEYA mantra of the present administration to be actualised, as recorded in the achievements of the Ministry in the outgoing year.
Speaking, Commissioner in the Ministry, Mr. Ola Oresanya, noted that the agency’s accomplishments, particularly on increased revenue generation, despite the economic downturn in the outgoing year, were due to teamwork and commitment of management and staff.
Mr. Oresanya, who expressed hope of achieving more, just as the agency continues to reward hard work, charged members of staff to be dedicated and truthful for new opportunities to come in the new year, stressing that, ‘’when preparedness meets opportunity, the result is success’’.
Earlier, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Gbenga Oyeleye, commended the state government for its support, stating that the responsibilities of the agency require commitment and diligence of officers.
Lauding the Commissioner’s efforts for harnessing resources and getting results, the Permanent Secretary described the cumulative aggregate performance in the Ministry of Environment, Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) and Ogun State Waste Management (OGWAMA), as being impressive.
Prayers were offered for the Ministry, the state and Nigeria in general by a Pastor from Mercy International Christian Church, Taiwo Olanrewaju, as well as the Imam, Oke-Mosan Central Mosque, who doubles as the Director, Muslims Welfare Board, Abdulfatai Buhari.
Highlight of the event was presentation of awards of Diligence and Productivity to three outstanding junior officers; among them were two temporary staff from sister agencies of the Ministry, whom the Head of Service promised to convert to permanent staff, as a reward for uprightness and dedication to work.

STAFFERS ADMONISHED TO BE PRODUCTIVE
Staffers of the Department of Secondary and Higher Education, in the Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, have been admonished to be more productive and shun any vice that could tarnish their image.
The Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye gave the admonition in Abeokuta, during the end-of-the-year celebration, organised by the Department, urging them to be diligent in taking the Ministry to higher pedestal.
Mrs. Ogunleye, who commended the Director of Education and officers in the Department for their doggedness and hard work in the discharge of duties, saying their commitment and assiduousness had contributed to the achievements of the Ministry.
The Permanent Secretary said, despite the sensitivity of the work nature of the Department, Majekodunmi had been exceptional, charging officers under his supervision to emulate him by maintaining credibility, integrity and good working relationships.
"As we are progressing on a daily basis, people around us are watching us, you will marvel at what they will say about us. So, just prove yourself and relate well with others’’, she said.
Earlier, Mr. Majekodunmi thanked God for preserving and protecting the staffers in the department till the end of the year, commending them for being supportive.
Speaking on behalf of other staffers, Deputy Director in the Department, Mrs. Mary Duse, commended the Director for the get-together, to rejoice and celebrate one another, describing him as an astute leader, worthy of emulation.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Ogunleye charged officers in the Department of Planning Research and Statistics (PRS), to be productive, maintain good conduct, be their brother’s keeper and ensure self-development.
The Permanent Secretary, gave the charge during the End of the Year programme of the Department, saying their conduct would ascertain a brighter future for individuals and the Ministry as a whole.
Underscoring the purpose of the event, the Director, PRS, Mrs. Abosede Edun, said the programme was to appreciate God’s faithfulness, and acknowledge the support of the management in moving the Department forward.

GOVERNMENT AGENCIES SHOULD SHARE DATA FOR PLANNING PURPOSES - STATISTICIAN GENERAL
Ogun State Statistician-General, Mr. Michael Ajayi, has urged Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government, to share and circulate statistical publications for planning purposes.
Mr. Ajayi, who made this known in Abeokuta, while speaking at a day workshop, organised by the state Ministry of Budget and Planning, as well as the Bureau of Statistics, in collaboration with United Nations Population Fund Agency (UNFPA), pointed out that Statisticians go through the rigours of data collection, collation, analysis and interpretation, saying it was imperative to circulate, distribute and share publication for purpose of planning, as and when due.
While distributing the Year 2023 editions of Ogun State Statistical Year Book to the participants from the MDAs, Local Government Areas and some Federal agencies, the Statistician General urged stakeholders in the state statistical system to use the disseminated publications judiciously, so as to reap the benefits therein.
He itemised various challenges facing Statisticians to include funding, facilities, equipment, logistics, data security and privacy, among others, appreciating the present administration for giving the Bureau an enabling environment to function.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget and Planning, Mrs. Fumilayo Dada, represented by the Director, Development Partner Coordination in the Ministry, Mrs. Funmilola Tade, charged the MDAs, especially the Directors of Planning, Research and Statistics (DPRS), including participants at the workshop to make good use of the training, to assist the Bureau to effectively perform its function.
The spokesperson, UNFPA in the state, Dr. Akin Akinbajo, in his goodwill message, applauded the Bureau for providing accurate, timely, reliable and credible information, which formed current and future policies of government, pledging its agency’s support.
