OGSG TRAINS WORKERS ON EFFECTIVE FIRE PREVENTION
Determined to ensure that its workforce get acquainted with the required knowledge in combating and preventing fire hazards both at the workplace and at home, the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has exposed its staffers to theoretical and practical training on preventive measures, in case of fire outbreak.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi while declaring the training with the theme ‘’ Fire Safety Management’’ open, at thOba’s complex, Abeokuta, noted that it would enable staffers of the ministry to understand the necessary measures to take, in case of any fire incident.
Akinlesi emphasised that training was a major ingredient and very germane for workers, saying, “It is not just enough to know how to respond to a fire incident, but more importantly responding swiftly and efficiently when faced with such.
“It is important to have training that will be beneficial to people and that is why we organise this training. Fire as we know destroys properties, causes injury, and eventually leads to death or loss of job, but proper training will empower people to efficiently know how to respond in case of fire hazard’’.
In his lecture, the Director, Fire and Safety Services, Engr. Fatai Adefala emphasised that fire serves as a source of warmth, light, and power, but could be the greatest danger when its occurs.
Adefala said that a fire outbreak could arise as a result of negligence or natural occurrence, admonishing the staffers to desist from overloading sockets and avoid using phones while in the kitchen, among others.
He stressed that there are varying classes of fire and various methods used in extinguishing them, advising that every citizen should have fire extinguishers in their cars and at home to prevent eventualities.
In their remarks, two of the participants, Mr. Damilola Sowunmi and Mrs. Toke Alaba, appreciated the management for the training, promising that the knowledge impacted would be put to use when the need arises.
